Malta - Week 36

Malta Week 36- Hail in Malta, Sister Hoyt's Birthday, Bunco and more!

On Monday night, I helped one of the sisters teach the intermediate English class, leaving Steve to teach the advanced class on his own. I was very pleased that he remembered to take the picture!

Institute on Tuesday night.  This doesn't show everyone who was there.  I had one of the missionaries take a selfie on his phone and somehow I never got it!

For our hike on Wednesday, we met in the town of Marsaxlokk, a beautiful little fishing village in Malta.  It's listed on the top ten things to do in Malta and yet we had never been there.

Horsing around with the missionaries before the Morrises arrived!
This is a cute set of missionaries!

As we commenced our hike from the village and ascended rolling hills, we were soon enveloped by black clouds, and it began to rain.  I was sure it was going to be a miserable hike in the rain, but it wasn't long before it all cleared up

After the weather cleared up, it continued to be a beautiful day with only a few sprinkles for the rest of the day!

This hike was truly amazing, showcasing an abundance of scenic beauty.

We were intrigued by this sandstone formation and had some fun posing with it for some pictures.

Climbing the hill to reach St. Peter's Pool.

We took the high road to St Peter's pool, while the missionaries took the short cut.  We warned them that they wouldn't be able to make it down this cliff, but they proved us wrong!

Somehow, they all managed to shimmy on down the cliffs!

St Peter's Pool

Next, was a walk to the lighthouse.
We loved seeing all the wildflowers along the way.

Alas, the lighthouse!

A beautiful view of the valley as we returned!

They have a small outdoor market in the town of Marsaxlokk every day.  Even though we were exhausted, we decided to check it out! On Sunday it is much larger, but it was still worth visiting on Wednesday. It was wonderful to shop at all the booths, buy a few things, and visit with the people there.

For English Class on Wednesday night, we did one of my favorite activities.  We divided the class in half and took them in different rooms and had them call each other.  We gave them a picture and they had to describe how to the other person on the phone how draw the picture.  This makes them have to really work on pronunciation since the other person can't read their lips or see their hand gestures or facial expressions.  It was quite entertaining to see the pictures at the end of the exercise!

Thursday evening, the Morrises invited the Elders and us to dinner.
Their home is always beautiful, and the food is equally amazing!

Last week, we noticed our washing machine making a loud knocking sound and then it started to smell like burning rubber. We quickly turned it off and opened the door.  Smoke billowed out all over the room. We are grateful we were home, as the apartment could have caught fire had we not been able turn it off. The washing machine was destroyed, so the landlord bought us a new one.  It was delivered on Friday!  We were excited to find out that it isn't a washer dryer combo like the last one.  It is much nicer, and we are grateful to now have a pretty decent washer and dryer!

Friday Night:  BUNCO
For our YSA activity on Friday night, I decided to introduce the game of Bunco!  It was somewhat challenging explaining the rules to such a diverse group of people whose first language is not English, but we succeeded. Although some participants may not have followed the exact rules, the evening was for the most part successful! Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and they want to do it again soon.  These are my new Bunco Buddies!

On Saturday afternoon, we had a storm come in.  This looks like broken glass, but it's actually hail!  Who knew they had hailstorms in Malta!

This was our temple prep class on Sunday.  Since it's at 12:00, right after the 2 hour block, I always bring lots of food for them!

Sunday evening, we had the sister missionaries over for dinner.  It was Sister Hoyt's birthday, so I made her a heath bar cake!  We love these sweet sisters!

Happy Birthday Sister Hoyt!!!
